I caught them on the flip side. Was just about to get to work on the shelves
for my van when I heard the drums, so I grabbed my camera. Got photos, then
ended up walking with them, hanging out with a high school classmate I hadn’t
seen in decades. The photos are uploading now (1705 my time, they should all
be up in 15 minutes or so.

They made it back to the High School, everything was fine, then when everyone
got out of the road, one kid, the drummer, decided to stand in the middle of
the road and make a spectacle. eventually a few more joined them. I suspect
that they were so disappointed that all they got from the CHP was support, that
they were really trying to push things, because being 18 they felt a moral duty
to cause trouble.

Even their chants of “All Cops Are Bastards” were pretty good spirited. There
were a few amusing interactions between the kids and the CHP.

The situation here with the cops was a little extra fraught because two weeks
ago, we had that excitement with the Air Force MP who ambushed the deputies and
killed one. It turns out that he was also implicated in the murder of a
federal agent up on Oakland a week or so before that.

Very few, but there were some.

As I said, I did end up walking with them back to the High School. There were
half a dozen or so of us old farts hanging out. We were trying to tell the kids
things like, “we’re on your side, but by blocking traffic right now, you’re
just going to piss off the people who support you.

Almost all of the responses were positive. People honking and waving as they
went past. When it’s an absolutely gorgeous day under the redwoods, it’s
pretty easy to keep things chill, particularly when most of the people marching
are doing it out of principle, rather than direct experience of oppression.
