I figured that I'd take what I'd learned, head back to the Chitwood bridge and get some photos of meteors over it.
I did get one photo of a meteor, I also saw a very nice one off in an entirely different direction than my camera was pointing. https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/50223892892/in/album-72157715478462583/ I had the clever idea of taking frames with the off camera flash at 1/100 https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/50223894522/in/album-72157715478462583/ and then on astrotracer at 10 seconds (also with flash) https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/50223672276/in/album-72157715478462583/ and using lightroom's hdr to combine them to get the bridge sharp, with good color balance and the stars visible and sharp. Unfortunately lightroom said that there wasn't enough that's the same between both to combine them. If I ever learn photoshop, masks and that sort of stuff, I may give reprocessing another try. Here's a panorama without the mailboxes. I readjusted my photo position. Also using radio triggers (I remembered batteries this time) allowed me more flexibility in positioning the flash. https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/50223021388/in/album-72157715478462583/ In short, I'll chalk last night up mostly to learning curve.
