I don't know if it's physically possible to portray the way it looked because
no photo can filter it the way your brain does. It was weirdly dark, and you
could more sense than see the yellowish hue. The quality of the light was also
eerie, and odd flatness. If I was inside the house and looked up through the
skylight the sky looked that orange, but that's because I have bright 5000K LED
lamps in the kitchen.
Just as I was starting to feel more comfortable, word came in of another set of
dry thunderstorms (though with some chance of rain) between now and Tuesday.
One happy miracle, is that Boomeria survived. I have taken some of you up to
see the Boom's pipe organ and castle. 60+ years ago he put in a pool and a
pump house for fire protection. Unfortunately the neighbor didn't know how to
operate the pumps, or towers one and two might have been saved, but the house,
the pipe organ and the castle survived. If you have facebook you can see
photos here on his son's page:

I have not heard anything about how Heinlein's house fared in the same
neighborhood.
The best fire map seems to be LA times:

It's the SCZ fire, the red area is the evacuation zone, the red dots are hot
spots.
A couple of observations that someone with a sick sense of humor may appreciate:
Bonny Doon wine really did have a smokey finish.
Looking at all the fires around California, if this keeps up there won't be
anything left for PG&E.
