Did all that. The elongation is from a 1 sec exposure at 500mm. The Astrotracer should work immediately.

Shot at 170mm. The 500mm shots were "elongated". Will try again with the 
Astrotracer tomorrow, clouds willing.
One problem with astrotracer is that it won’t work at anything less than 10 
seconds, which is way too long.

The elongation has to do with those points being so small that any vibration at 
all show up.  You have to tighten everything down very solid, every adjustment 
on the tripod tight, you need to use a 2 second delay on the shutter release 
AND you need to use a cable release or remote trigger.
