I tripped & fell and somehow managed to rip the display off the back of my K-1.
Instead of hanging by 4 legs it's now hanging by one. I can't see any damage to the
little cable that connects the display to the back of camera body, but the display
is not working.
It turns on & the auto-focus "appears" to work.
Also broke the plastic rim around the eyepiece (that holds the rubber piece in
place).
I don't think I broke anything on me.
At least not physically. That sounds like one frothy cesspit of suck. I had
only had my K20 a few weeks when it fell off of a monopod and landed on
pavement five feet below. I know what a terrible feeling that is. The good news
is that it seems that with the possible exception of some connectors, all of
the pieces that broke are probably just plastic case pieces.
I suspect that the most straightforward solution is to ship it off to Precision
and pay their price. If you could find a dead K-1, you might be able to
salvage it for parts.
Alternatively, I don’t know how far prices on used K-1s have fallen.
In any case, I’m glad that the physical damage was confined to the camera.
It's Sunday, so I'm just not going to worry about it until Monday. That includes
trying to figure out where to send it for repair.
What I'll probably do is take it down to the local Pentax Dealer and have them
send it off to be repaired. May cost me a bit extra, but I like having a local
Pentax Dealer & probably should do my bit to keep them in business.
I did take a look at KEH, and they don't have a used K-1 (or K-1 II) in stock.
I still have my K-3, K20D & K10D (and if I get desparate, I can dig out the
*ist-D).
I should also mention it doesn't appear to have hurt the little dog either,
although he's still giving me slightly reproachful looks as if I had gotten
under HIS feet.
I got the second shot yesterday. No reaction so far, other than the slight
soreness at the vaccination site (which is fairly normal for me when I get my
flu shots). They told me I might have some "flu like" symptoms in the next two
weeks indicating my immune system is coming fully online with the antibodies for
Covid, and that within two weeks I should be fully immune.
I'm hoping that by then some of the dreary weather will have cleared and I'll be
able to get out more.
