Sanyo to Scale up Digital Camera Production to 10 Million This Year Sanyo Electric, the largest OEM supplier of digital still cameras, is turning up its sleeve to increase its production to the 10 million unit line. New assembly lines will be built at the company's overseas factories in China and Indonesia for doubling the production of low-to-middle class cameras. The company currently produces digital still cameras at four sites, one in Osaka, Japan, one in Masan, Korea, one in Bogor, Indonesia and one in Dongguan, China. Annual production capacity of both Chinese and Indonesian factories combined is well over 3 million units. Sanyo plans to step up the capacity to 6 million units. The Japanese factory in Osaka and Korean factory in Masan are able to roll out 2 million units each. The Dongguan factory in China has reportedly commenced producing digital cameras at an annual rate of 1 million in May. There is only one assembly line currently operating. Sanyo will install a few more assembly lines at the factory and increase parts procurement from local suppliers from 20% to 30%. In Indonesia, Sanyo will increase its assembly line from four to five to six lines, as required to meet the growing demand in China. Sanyo became the largest producer of digital still cameras in 2000, rolling out 4.5 million units. Annual production will climb to 6 to 7 million units in 2002. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions.
