I find having a bunch of buttons I don't need is far, far less annoying than not having a button that provides some functionality I really like. As not everybody wants the same kind of thing, I'll put up with a camera with buttons I never use (which, in my case, probably includes anything related to video) if it makes the camera attractive to manufacturers.
