I should think it would have to agree in gender, number and case with anax, which has a masculine ending.
It is not in my Latin dictionary so i googled it. It appears to be an ancient Greek word for a tribal leader or warlord, so a similar meaning. Αναξ doesn’t appear in my modern Greek dictionary but the words beginning with αναξ all concern uselessness, incompetence and nepotism. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.
