I have seen NO dragonflies or damselflies around here this summer. I suspect that has something to do with the fact that most of my neighbors have signed up for these pesticide services that spray your lawn every month. They have knocked on my door at least 6 times last year and this one, but I refuse. First, I think it unnecessary, especially since we have had almost no gypsy moths or Japanese beetles for the past several years, and second, I think it bad for my dog and for the butterflies I try to attract.
The pesticides haven't eliminated the cicadas, however. They are making a racket out there all day long right now.
