I'm not sure to which plants you are referring.

The majority of the Mountain Aloes are mature (very old) & at full height so they all appear much the same. With so little grass cover on these rocky slopes, any fires which do occur are not particularly destructive. All the old leaves remain intact on the trunks. I should have taken some shots in July when they were all in bloom. Here is a shot of a plant in bloom in my neighbour's garden (about 10 years old):

The Naboom trees are candelabra shaped succulents. There are quite a lot interspersed between the aloes.

A bit dry-looking, for sure, nicely shot.

There appear to be a lot of plants (like the two in the left foreground) that
are about the same height, and don’t look like the pictures I find via Google
for either mountain aloe or naboom. What are they? Are they all the same height
because of fire?

Travelling West to Polokwane in Limpopo Province from the Lowveld, one must transverse
a lowish mountain range known as Magoebaskloof after an 18th century chieftain. The
rainfall on the eastern (Tzaneen) side of the mountains is high making it a prime area
for fruit farming with forestry on the mountains themselves. A lot of indigenous forest
is preserved too. Rain & Mist is often encountered in the mountains but the west
side is a classic rain shadow. On this side the rolling hills are rather rocky with
very little arable land. One sees scrawny cattle & goats foraging on the hillsides.
Peasant farmers eke out a living. The dominant plant species are the Mountain Aloe
(Aloe Marlothii) and the Naboom (Euphorbia Ingens) with a few small Acacia trees.

This Geso attempts to illustrate the scene.
