Rick, I agree with Henk. An Aperature Motor Failure.
I had the same issue with my K-50 a few years ago (my thread on PDML: K50 - Aperture Motor Failure?). I wound up getting it fixed for $100 (if I remember correctly). It worked for about 18 months and then acted up again. I wound up buying an excellent used K-5 from Paul. Good luck! -- Thanks!
