When I was in the game, I charged an hourly rate for my time on the job, plus materials at cost. I didn't bother to hold back negatives from the client, they got the negatives/ slides as well as the prints upon delivery of the job. The net result of this was that I was a $600.00 - $1000.00 per day shooter, who couldn't keep up with the amount of business I was generating via word of mouth, and I didn't have to bother with filing negatives or worrying about floods or fire destroying my clients negatives.
