The European chestnut (fortunately for all of you across the pond) has been
rescued by a virus that is a blight on the fungus. There’s some poetic justice

Our European chestnut trees are being killed by an invasive species of
moths (cameraria ohridella). It's a sad view to see those majestic trees
shed their leaves in mid-summer.
