Well, I set all of my cameras other than the iPhone to raw-only format output
so I'm hardly one to complain about the size of a raw file.

I use the Moment camera app on the iPhone specifically to allow use of raw
format files with the 1x and 2x cameras (the 0.5x camera does not support
generating raw format output), nominally for the increased rendering potential.
That said, the standard Apple Camera app produces very very good output in HEIC
format and has all the benefits of JPEG image compression but with more dynamic
range. The raw file does have a small edge, and with this new denoise algorithm
that edge grows a bit.

The size difference between the HEIC and the Moment camera's DNG output of the
same image is 450Kbytes vs 15 Mbytes … obviously a huge difference. I don't
have one of the later iPhones that can output raw from the Apple Camera app to
compare against.

fun fun fun… G
