Hi all,

I've been tinkering with some ideas for doing a searchable database
of my photos. The basics are done already but I need to figure out a
way to actually present the images and accompanying information.

So stoke up the old browser and head off to:
http://www.digistar.com/~dmann/photolib/

Tick the first three "Landscape" options and press the "Enter" button
down the bottom.  Don't worry too much about all the other rubbish;
there's only 9 images in the "test" database and the searching
doesn't work very well anyway. Have a play, then go back and change
the "output file" option (right down the bottom).

You will notice that the "standard" version is much more "polished"
than the others. Thats what I've been slowly developing ever since I
started the project. I just bashed up the frames versions this
evening to see how they'd turn out. I will work on pre-loading the
first image later; that needs a small change to the C code which I
really can't be bothered doing right now (its been on the todo list
for ages).

I am not after a critique of my site design or my images. Its early
days yet and that stuff is likely to change - I have a few intentions
already. What I do want to know is whether the frames-based approach
is really worth pursuing further. I think its easier to navigate but
I do have a general dislike of frames. You can't cut & paste URLs
easily, and they require a higher screen resolution to fit everything
in. There is also the option of opening images in a new window,
similar to the PUG. Maybe I could just do scripts for "all of the
above" and leave the option on the search form :)

Anyway after all that rambling, feedback is definitely appreciated.

BTW most of the sample images were taken with Pentax gear. Don't
trust the descriptions in the database; I deliberately mis-labelled
most of them for testing purposes... which is why you'll see things
like a 6x7 photo taken with a Pentax K2 :)

Cheers,

- Dave
