At this point I may be talking out my you know what. Can > you set a shutter speed on the leaf shutter? > Are saying no matter what you do it won't work because with out something > to trip the aperture lever, the leaf shutter will never trip? Here is the operation cycle of a leaf shutter lens mounted to an SLR camera with a focal plane shutter: 1) The photographer pushes the button. 2) The aperture mechanism starts to cycle the lens to its working aperture. This also trips the leaf shutter. The leaf shutter closes as the mirror goes up and the aperture stops down. 3) The focal plane shutter opens. 4) The leaf shutter cycles for the set shutter speed. 5) The focal plane shutter closes. 6) On the 90mm LS lens, the shutter reopens after the exposure. On the 165mm LS lens, the shutter stays closed after the exposure, and opens when the shutter is cocked. The 90mm lens does have a cable release, the 165 does not. I know what you are saying. Here is the problem. The leaf shutter must be closed before the focal plane shutter opens. The leaf shutter must then close prior to the focal plane shutter closing. On the 6x7, the lens shutter is actuated by the aperture lever. The lever moves a bit and the shutter begins its cycle, timed so that it will open after the focal plane shutter opens. I don't think a person could time it closely enough with a dual cable release. It would be easier with the 165, as the shutter stays closed, so it is not as important about when the focal plane shutter closes, but I don't think it could be done reliabley.
