Its plastic so there's no problem machining it. I am not sure if you would be able to fit 4 AA's in there. You just reminded me that I wanted to buy a better set of jewellers screwdrivers to take mine to bits :) Regardless of that, the grip really does improve the handling of the Z- 1p.
