Hi Tim, Tom Grimm's Darkroom book is helpful in that it covers a wide range of basics for the darkroom. Another Step-by-Step book is titled "Step into your darkroom" (or something like that). There's also a ton of information that can be found online - - e.g. http://www.photo.net forums.
