Hi, I have over the weeked shot and today developed a roll of Ilford's near-infra-red film, the SFX. I was using a Panchromar (glass works in Jena, GDR) Infrarot filter (roughly equivalent to 89A or Hoya R72, or similar filters - it is not totally opaque), on my LX with 35/2 M. Developed in good old Rodinal 1:50.
Suffice to say, I am impressed! Obviously the infrared effect on foliage isn't as strong as with far-IR films, but using the nearly-opaque filter it gets strong enough! As the Konica 750 nor Maco 820 are't available where I live, this is the only option for me now in IR (HIE is just so cumbersome and soooo expensive. And for "halos" its known for, I can just use a duto or softar filter...). I am just beggining in IR (apart from few experiments with digital IR), and I think I will love it, from the first experience! I just shot the whole roll at 1/30, f8 (with slight changes in the evening), but I compared that to what the LX's meter read, and it was very similar (read tru the filter)! So I guess the LX meter is really good at metering IR too. I will bracket more next time and try auto-exposure of the LX plus exp.compensation to see if I can shoot straight at iso 200 with filter on or compensate. All of the pictures turned out ok, some of them the wood effect is not so noticable. The evening/morning ones are better. I haven't yet scanned the roll, when I do I will post a link for critique. Any critique is welcome of course! Good light, Frantisek Vlcek - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions.
