It's normal, in fact, it's good - flash is normally TOO much blue especially for fill flash. Most photogs use warm filter gel over the flash head. Check if the 283 is the earlier high voltage synch version or the later safe version, it wouldn't matter on mechanical cameras but could ruin your eletronic or TTL flash camera.
