It is pure anectodal evidence based on the lenses I've owned.

It not that A lenses aren't solid or well made, it's just that the metal bodies of the 
FA* lenses are significantly thicker than on the A lenses and they appear more solid 
to me. However, the A lenses are better finished and more scratch resistant. The 
plastic cover often used on the outside of FA* lenses doesn't exactly add to a quality 
feel.

Remember, we are talking FA* lenses, not FA. Theres a significant difference in built 
quality between the two (in general).
