Bill, I recently picked up a book on posing called "Master Posing Guide For Portrait Photographers" that is quite good. It is written by J.D. Wacker.
As to films, on the color side, I quite like the Portra 160NC and that would be my first choice. I know Fuji has a very similar film, but my lab prints the Kodak better.
