I see your point. In this case it really makes a difference. 
I'll see to it tonight.
There main reason for the chaos is that I've let Photoshop assign 
filenames autmatically, while I didn't scan the images in the same 
order as they are on the films.

Yes, ok there are some which are T-B and B-T. Let's concentrate on 
the first group. Separate the pix into L-R, R-L,  absolute corkers 
(any direction). The corkers go in the centre. The drectional 
shots are arranged around them, pointing the way to the best 
shots. L-R go on the left, whilst (you guessed it) R-L on the 
right. Just try this at home with an archive sleeve and lightbox.
