Yes, correct! Even though the cameras has the info about maximum aperture, it doesn't kow which aperture is currently selected, so it cannot do it. On the other hand, maybe the lenses communicate the selected aperture electronically, via the digital contact. So I might be incorrect, and the all-inclusive statement might be correct.
