Thought I would just share with the list my eBay happiness. Ever since our PDML meet at the Duxford airshow I've been on the lookout for an automatic SLR for my son to use, something that can be pointed and shot with, mainly to get the creative juices flowing so that hopefully he will get the bug and learn all about it as he gets older (he's only 8.5). Received today the contents of an auction that had this description:
>PENTAX Z-10 >Auto-focus camera 35mm >Comes in good condition with Manual, Spare Battery, Carry Case, 35 - 70mm >Lens & 70 - 210mm Lens. >An overall great camera, but I couldnt find much information on the net >to display here! When my son and I opened the box, this is what we found: a mint condition Z-10 camera with Pentax strap a mint condition SMC Pentax-F 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5 an exc++ condition Sigma AF-K 70-210mm f/4-5.6 both with skylight filters an instruction manual a spare battery all in a black Canon carry case ;-) all for 102 GBP (that's just shy of 150 bucks) I had seen just Z-10 bodies in camera shops for about 90 quid, so figured that a decent free market used price would be around the 60 quid mark? So effectively for another 40 quid, two decent little zooms as well, and I guess that amounts to a pretty good deal, and I'm not sniffing at it. Any comments? I must admit to being a bit jealous - I stuck my Tokina 28-70 and Sigma EX 70-200 on it and used them in AF for the first time! I love the auto-focus - it's cute, and saves these aging eyes another chore. The program mode is fine, but I have the feeling I am being lazy :-) Fear not - I picked up the LX after, and my hand instantly snapped into position on it and refused to un-grip itself. I was surprised at the quality of the little Z-10, and it's already being used by the lad who is shooting some Fuji even now! Interesting times ahead.
