I've had two Winders MEII (I know, not a scientific sample.) Both bought 
used. Both went bad. One's death coincided with the death of the ME Super to 
which it was attached. The other was being used on a SuperProgram, which 
survived.

Based on my unscientific sampling my feeling would be to suspect the winder 
first ...
