In general, the serial number of the bottom plate is just the bottom plate serial. Which means that if the bottom plate is changed, the number will tell you nothing about the camera. But assuming the original plate is there, the number probably make sense.
I know there are some web pages that have proximated bottom plate numbers to production dates for the Lx and possibly some other houses, but I can't find the links right now. Maybe others can help. However, fot the Lx at least, there is another serial number painted on the chassis in the film path, just beside the film cartridge compartment on the left. It's painted in black on black, so you'll need good lights to see it. Don't know if this also applies to other houses. Not much help I'm afraid, but maybe some clues to lead you on?
