>Almost no one is using film anymore; have you seen a max rez shot from a new high end Canon or Nikon digital?<
the main difference i see between my Provia 100F originals after scanning and my Nikon digital originals? there isn't any film grain in the digital original. large prints made from the scan or from the original slide itself are undeniably sharper, but in a magazine spread, you don't need and can't use the extra detail. scanning my slides in their mounts yields approximately a 19 megapixel image. i will get a very crisp 12x18 print from my Epson 1270 printer only if i am very careful taking the slide in the first place. i also make similarly sized prints from my Nikon Coolpix 5000. they are noticeably softer only when compared side by side.
