If youre going to be saving your digital files in the RAW
mode, it eats up memory fast. Youll need some very expensive
microdrives which are fragile, or CF cards which are also
expensive when large qtys are needed...

Your assuming that the batteries last forever. They dont.
I've already got two weak ones for my digital panasonic
P&S in only a year and a half. Suckers cost $60 each

Yeah that's now, but what about 10 years from now??
Those batteries will get harder to find especially
the ones especially made for 1 model of camera

Who cares? It's just a consumable... If I run out of

Yeah, but I can take as many rolls of film as I need.
You cant with a DSLR unless you go out and buy a bunch
of expensive rechargable batteries and have time to
charge them 1 at time on your single charger, unless
of course you buy a bunch or expensive chargers, IF
you can find them. Face it, That kind of battery dependence

You mean SPEND appropriately on a bunch of batteries
and possibly chargers too IF you can find them years from now.

################################################################
Right, and windows 3.1 never crashed. DSLRs have far more
points of failure than a simple spotmatic does. Electro-mechanics
and mechanics can be FAR more reliable than complex
solid state. Ever have a pair of pliers fail? They
have moving parts too :)

#############################################
I've seen LCD and LED displays go flaky on
many products over the years, they are not
infalible. LCD are also fragile, they can
crack rather easily if impacted

No but, Id prefer a electro-mechanical heart over one
that depended on a computer/software :)

Arent there any mechanical film SLRs left? I think
the Nikon FM3A is. If my life depended on getting a shot
would rather have that than a DSLR

That not the issue we were talking about, I was just bringing
up some of the hidden costs ( and disadvantages) of going
to a DSLR vs. film SLR.
