Thanks, Cameron < if your scanner doesn't do a good job of removing it when you select negative mode, then scan as if it were a positive and then use the Auto Levels in Photoshop after inverting. it will get you close if your subjects are "normal". however, my new scanner does removal of the mask just fine and so i now scan as negative and work with the images there. Herb....
