I fly almost every week and I can't tell if the scanners are any more
powerful but I haven't noticed any effect on the 400 speed film that I
always carry. My experience with requesting hand checking of film is that
the screeners really don't want to, but if you insist they will give you the
full treatment as if the scanners had detected excess metal on your person.
I suggest you take your film out of the boxes and plastic containers, put
the cartridges in zip lock bags and take them out of your carry on liggage
and put them trough the scaners by themselves. The screeners do seem to be a
little more understanding, more professional and less abrasive than I've
encountered in the past.
