Technically, its better to let them run all the time, as it saves wear and
tear on the drive having to spin itself up, as well as being quicker.

Although, I don't really think you have anything to worry about.

Although, as an aside, some of the machines in our datacenter have been
running for so long that when you stop them, the drives lock up and won't
restart.. The long standing geekfix for these problems is to take a screw
driver and give it a few sharp whacks above the spindle.
