Hi Bill, If only they'd been made redundant like the manual focus Canons of the same era no one would be having problems with them :-) Sounds like you have corroded/dirty contacts under the mode selector dial, have you tried working the dial through a few full cycles (I know it's difficult since you have to hold down that stupid little lock button)?
