Hi,

The archive (down since 17/10) is back up so I can now post
something on this event without worrying about duplication.

As Jostein notes, it was an excellent weekend in weather,
company and photography terms. It just was a bit short.....

Hadrian's Wall was a spectactular as I have ever seen it. The
rebuilt gatehouse was at South Shields, the southern town on the
Tyne estuary. Not floodlit, unfortunately, but still an
interesting session.

The castles were superb, as was the weather on the coast.

One small observation: we were walking through the dunes next
to Bamburgh castle, looking for a shot. I was ahead and Jostein
was some distance behind me with his 654/31mm combo in hand and
his tripod over his shoulder. I heard an awful clatter and an
exclaimation from Jostein. Thinking he had dropped his tripod,
I turned around. To see a worried Jostein and a stunned Golden
Labrador, which had been trying to run past Jostein on the dune
path and had gone headlong into his camera. The owner was most
apologetic, the dog recovered quickly and it was only later that
we discovered that the front element of the lens had been
dislodged.....

At the next castle, I did manage to expose some film of Jostein
getting perilously close to the surf in order to get the shot he
wanted. My film order arrived on the Monday.
