On the plus side of my friend's now dead D100 - the battery that comes
with it is quite good.  He was able to get over 300 shots - some flash
and viewing the LCD monitor during shooting.  He had bought a spare
battery to carry with him on his trip, but never needed it because he
didn't shoot more than 300 per day.  The battery aspect of the digicam
seems to be reasonable, in my opinion.
