I shoot my children all the time (they don't think it hurts ;) My youngest (she's 2) thinks it's fun when I get the Super Program out. She likes to take pictures with it but can't seem to resist poking her (usually sticky) fingers into the viewfinder... I couldn't get anywhere near them if I was tied to a mono/tri pod. They're much too quick for that. Now, if I was standing back taking telephoto shots of them in the playground or something, the monopod might work to fend off the cops...
