Hi Bruce:
I have the folding hood. It makes the camera remarkably compact,
and noticably lighter. Its amazing how much the prism weighs. I
have tried for, and have been outbid on 3 rigid hoods on eBay,
and now I don't think I will be getting one unless it falls in
my lap.
The waist level finder is really nice, especially if the camera
is on a tripod. The magnifier is sharp and doesn't seem to flare
as badly as other magnifiers I have used. I suspect it is SMC
coated.
The really nice thing about the folding hood is there are no
optics in it if the magnifer is down. This means there is 100%
viewfinder accuracy when using it, as the entire screen is
visible. The prism cuts out something like 15% of the screen.
The 6x7 screen is 100% accurate to the image on the film.
I can't comment on the rigid, I have never seen one.
Apparently, it is nice for macro.
