I left out a comma, in my post about DOF. Sorry folks. The Sigma 50mm f2.8
has an almost non-existent depth of field scale.

In the meantime I've been trying to get the aperture lever on my P30 to give
me some useful information. Unfortunately, as far as I can see and that's
not far, DOF pre-view doesn't offer me anything better than my own judgment
provides. I know what aperture to use for a portrait with nearby objects in
the field. I know what aperture I need for macros, so that what I want to be
in focus will be in focus and vice-versa. All that little lever does for me
is make things much darker and more difficult to see. This afternoon I'll
try the experiment with some really bright lights. That will help I'm sure.

In the meantime I'll think about more reasons why its pointless to complain
about the way apertures on lenses are labelled. See how polite I'm being?
