Hi, Albano,

I threatened to leave the list a couple of weekends ago, and came back
after a day or so, without actually un-subscribing. (Of course, maybe I
wasn't one of the "valuable daily posters you referred to! <g>) For me
it was the sheer volume and waste of time and silliness of things that
frustrated me. I was also in a really pissy mood that day, and let that
get the best of me. When I posted that I was leaving, several others
did the same thing in reply posts. I think they're all back now, IIRC,
or most of them.

If I might take the liberty of speaking for that group, I think the
feeling was to leave the list for a couple of days or a weeks, just to
let things cool down, and not have to put up with the crap.

I guess these things happen on an unmoderated list. After thinking
about it for a while, I'd prefer things as they are - cyclical, as you
say - to a list which is moderated, where people are being de-listed for
various "offences". It's what you put up with to keep freedom of
speech, which is a key to what makes this list the wonderful place that
it is, warts and all.

I don't use them, but as someone said, there's always filters...

And, things seem pretty calm right now (fingers crossed). <vbg>

cheers,
frank
