Hi again Steve,

I think the most important thing is that you should try and appoint the 
Scratch Disk(s) to hard disks or partitions thereof that are not used by 
anything else.

Better to have one exclusive Scratch Disk of, say, a 1 or 2 Gb partition 
of a hard drive than a couple of Scratch Disks where the area of hard 
drive is also used by other things. If this means partitioning a drive to 
accomodate, that's the price of speed and efficiency in Photoshop.
