You can still dodge and burn successfully but you have no control on the timings of the chemicals - which is part of the "fun" - you know, watching the image "magically" appear before your eyes and such.
I've got an old cheesy enlarger that I have to still try out with my new Patterson focus finder and GraLab timer to see what the images come out like but if that works I'll never have to go downtown for 35mm again. 6x6 is a different story...
