Yes, the K28/f2 is definitely worth buying, however, it is quite rare, huge and heavy....

Does anyone have experience of the rather large SMC-K 28mm f2 lens - this lens has a floating element and seems rare, is it worth buying?

I am under the impression, which may be wrong, that it was (co-)developed by Pentax and Zeiss.

The Zeiss Distagon 2/28 (used a 600$ lens) indeed has the same dimensions, and the lens elments that can be seen from the front seem to be identical. See:
