I fear this will not work as you would expect. The forward-zones feature in
PowerDNS recursor does not set the recursion desired (RD) flag in the queries
it forwards as it is intended for forwarding queries to authoritative
Nameservers only.
you are right. The config setting is --forward-zones-recurse:
forward-zones-recurse=.=1.2.3.4;1.2.3.5;1.2.3.6
But this option is new (http://wiki.powerdns.com/trac/changeset/1451)
and only available in the pdns trunk and not in 3.1.7.2
