Based on your fine debugging traces, I've been able to reproduce the crash, and I solved what I could reproduce in: http://wiki.powerdns.com/trac/changeset/2109 "fix crashes reported by Vasiliy G Tolstov and Frank Altpeter - turns out we were handing a copy of the database connection to the master/slave connection.. while we were still using it!"
