Reverse DNS does not have any impact with MySQL host. You should check the
MySQL configuration in it my.cnf file for the host. If MySQL was bind with
any IP that time you should use the same or reconfigure it.

You should have tried to login from CLI using mysql - u user -p -h hostIP

If all were okay then PDNS should also be able to connect.

One other concern could be port conflict.
