3CLUG still has its internal problems, but it's nothing like the flame
wars which I've had the privilage to observe in P*LUG.
Politically/Socially, there cannot be a one true way.
But how can I show everyone I am actually right if there is no one true way?
My point is to
illustrate that tolerance and cooperation is much more valuable in the
sociological realm than the search for the one way.
Depends on your goal. If you goal is to get along with everyone, you are
absolutely correct. If you goal is to make everyone think and agree with
you, then well...
A lot of geeks, pretty much every one I have ever met, myself included
agrees with your statement in theory. In practice we are all very biased
and want to do things our way and our way includes trying to get other
people to do it our way.
I think that the reason this is so prevalent in OSS versus closed
source, is closed source is ALL about money. OSS is mainly about social
aspects of freedom and technology. Money came later. Thus it is easier
for us all to have an ideaology and try to stick to it, regardless if
most of the ideas are immature and do not contain a relevance to what
real life really is.
Sincerely,
Joshua D. Drake
Personally, I
like the segregation of the formal, informal, and purely internet
groups (I'm surprised no ones mentioned #orlug in all of this); it
allows individuals get their own proper doses of informal/formal/etc
at the proper proportions without having to participate in all at
once.
Good luck. Have fun. Don't die.
Jackman.
