All,

This is primarily a curiosity question. I was trying to install the latest
test version of debian ("etch") on a Dell 2300 server with raid and SCSI
(adaptec 7890 I believe--uses the AIC7xxx driver along with MegaRAID). The
system could not find my logical drive however! Upon prompting me for the
driver to use, I selected AIC7xxx, but with no luck. Given that I hit the
roadblock I decided to try to boot off of Knoppix, and downloaded the latest
version of Knoppix (4.0.2), and it didn't work. This got me curious, so I
tried the 5.04 version of ubuntu, and it found the hard drive just fine. As
did the 3.x version of Knoppix (Joshua thanks for the copy btw), as well as
the debian sarge ("testing version") release.

My question is--why are the old versions working, and not the new ones? Has
anyone else heard of this problem?

Thanks!

Kevin Williams
