Having said that, if the creator of the PDF file set the permissions to
prohibit copying, then forget it. None of the Linux PDF viewers can
help. However, you *can* open the PDF in certain other apps, save as a
raster image, then OCR the raster image. That will get you at least the
text, although the results will be far from perfect and formatting will
be mostly lost.

I've heard that the copy protection isn't cryptographically based, and
that there are patches to the linux pdf readers that let you ignore
the copy protection, but I've never messed with that.
