I know it's a bit off topic, but I need some specs on Postgresql. The "company" is trying to decide whether to go M$ $QL on windoze or Postgresql on Linux. Does anyone know of performance comparisons between Postgresql and M$$SQL or Oracle (we have an old SQL vs Oracle comparison).
Thanks in advance!
Well, considering Oracle costs $20,000+, will take a bunch of work to install, and will require annual service contracts, why not just get Postgresql (free) and use the money you've saved on better hardware and support, maybe having a certain database company* come in to tune and configure it for you.
No question, Oracle is good. But is it $20-40,000 good? Do you need the features in Oracle not present in Postgresql? Only you can answer that.
I don't know of any head-to-head comparison tests (but if I find any, I'll post 'em) but I do know the .org domain registry runs on postgres.
