Position:  We are seeking an analytical, detail-oriented and dedicated individual to assist in maintaining, enhancing, integrating and supporting our UNIX, Linux and Windows-based environment.  This position will play a key role in our System Administration team, supporting both production facilities as well as infrastructure.  This person should be highly self-motivated, enjoy daily challenges, and be able to be immediately productive with all aspects of operations of an enterprise-critical network.  The applicant will need to be able to direct and team with others without requiring detailed supervision or guidance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Configure, maintain and troubleshoot servers, desktop computers, networking and office equipment
  • Primary person responsible for PC and Mac desktop workstations
  • Maintain various system health monitoring tools
  • Participate in the development and implementation of procedures for disaster recovery
  • Recommend and analyze system enhancements and upgrades, including new solutions
  • Security monitoring and routine audit of servers, routers, firewalls
  • Document systems and procedures
  • Log and maintain all manuals and software
  • Support development teams on system deployments and performance optimizations
  • Provide support to end-users
  • Conduct training of end-users
  • Assist as needed in ongoing projects
  • Close, daily interaction with other System Administrators, DBAs, and Developers
  • Rotating 24x7 on-call schedule, with responsibility to see problems through to resolution
  • Available to occasionally work evenings or weekends for large-scale or high-priority projects

 

Key Qualifications:

 

  • 2+ years Sys Admin experience in a 24x7 Sun Solaris (UNIX) production environment (certification preferred) with solid understanding of virtual memory, file systems, and job control
  • Expert understanding of file system and network sections of the Linux kernel (prefer Redhat or SUSE distributions) preferred (certification desired)
  • Significant BIND (DNS) experience
  • Knowledge of Routing and Virtual Private Networks (VPN)
  • Familiarity administering Cisco equipment
  • Good knowledge of Internet security practices
  • Firm understanding of TCP/IP networking principles
  • Microsoft Windows OS and PC Hardware administration experience required, certifications preferred
  • Macintosh OS and Hardware administration experience required, certifications preferred
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve advanced software and hardware problems quickly and completely
  • Ability to define and implement procedures that assure system reliability
  • Demonstrated Help desk and troubleshooting skills through issue resolution
  • Desktop Support background, preferably supporting Microsoft Windows, Office and Apple products
  • Strong client service orientation
  • Prefer Web Application support experience (such as Apache, Tomcat, JBoss)
  • Prefer strong hardware experience in Sun and Intel environments
  • Prefer Cisco Networking experience
  • Project Leadership skills preferred
  • Team Lead skills desirable
  • Must work well under pressure, be sensitive to deadlines, be able to interact in a team environment, and be able to adapt quickly to change
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills are essential
  • Additionally, candidate should be self-motivated and work well with end-users, management, and internal and external customers (possess great people skills)

 

Education:  BS and 5+ years experience, or MS and 3+ years experience, or related technical expertise is preferred
